ranking teams: ncaa men’s basketball 2000-23
In my project for the Sports Statistics class, I developed an innovative ranking system to determine the top NCAA men's basketball teams from 2000 to 2023. The project required a deep dive into historical performance data, extracting and weighing variables such as conference championships, Final 4 appearances, and national titles. Rather than relying on existing metrics, I synthesized these data points into a custom model that provided a holistic measure of team success over the specified period.
This endeavor showcased my adeptness at sifting through extensive datasets to identify and prioritize relevant factors. I meticulously analyzed patterns within the data, adjusting for variables that might skew a team's true performance level. The system was built on a foundation of objective data analysis, yet it was the strategic consideration of each element's impact on the overall rankings that set my approach apart.
The careful construction of my ranking system reveals an ability to approach problems from both granular and broad perspectives, piecing together a narrative from numbers that tell the stories of these teams' journeys through the seasons. By presenting the data in a clear, accessible format, I effectively communicated the reasoning behind each team's placement, making the data not just understandable but also engaging.
The process and outcomes of this project exemplify my capability to take on complex analytical tasks and drive them to meaningful conclusions. It reflects a skill set well-suited for roles that demand not only technical data analysis but also the creativity to build something insightful and original from it.
